The origin of Gelston's Corner at Strandtown, it is believed that the present pub on the corner was known as Gelston's Public House. In 1870 Strandtown was a village separate from Belfast and had a population of some 140. Mrs Gelston owned the property which was an inn, groceries and provisions store. Even though she was only there for a short while she succeeded in leaving her name behind for Gelston's Corner is still known and used today.
